Orkney Dance Festival 2006

The 2nd - and last - Orkney Dance Festival happened at Easter  2006, if you missed it you missed probably the best dance festival, the best dance music, the best dance tuition and the most fun happening anywhere in the dancing world!

We did classes in Old Time to Orcadian , Step Dance to Shetland Reels, Scottish Country Dance  to Salsa, South American to Strictly Ballroom , Highland and Hebridean Dance, Arabic Belly Dance  and Flamenco!

As tutors we had Jessie Stuart, Ken & Lavinia Morris, John Sikorski, Maria Leask, Maureen Findlay, Tina Gordon (Kalila), Dunia Baena, and Terri Flett - and the people of Orkney instructing and giving the stories of their own dances.

We had great musicians - each one a band leader in their own right - Stuart Anderson, Nicol McLaren, Judith Linton and David Scott - and they brought Izzie Hodgson, Gordie Howie and George Macleod along too. We had the Glencraig Scottish Dance Band, Glenelvan Scottish Dance Band as well as Orkney's own Jim Anderson's Band and the Wyre Band. On Rousay we witnessed the wonderful talent of the islands musicians notably the Marwick Boys and the Grieve family, with a final blast from the Wyre Band led by the unforgettable Edwin Flaws

And the biggest plus was the number of Orcadian dancers taking part and making visitors SO WELCOME!
